Kevin Mather and Ron Barlow have been selected to run for Cheshire in a triangular match against Cumberland, Westmorland, Northumberland and Durham, at Carlisle, on June 7th.
On May 14 at Port Sunlight, Kevin Mather ran the fastest half-mile by a club member for the first four seasons, finishing 4th in 1 min. 59 secs. He also finished 4th in the one mile in 4 mins. 34 sees.
As there were so many entries for the mile, it was decided to hold four races to cope with the entries.
In the first race Tony Townsend finished 7th (4 mins. 47 sees.) closely followed by Phil Townsend in 8th position (4 mins. 48 secs.), Dave White was 11th (4 mins. 52 secs.) and Dave Noble 14th (4 mins. 58 secs.).
In the second race Bill Morris was 5th in 4 mins. 58 secs., and Brian Chalton 9th in 5 mins. 4 secs.
The Northern Counties Track Championship are to be held at White City, Manchester, on June 21st. Entries close first post on May 31. The Cheshire County Championship, senior youths and girls, are on June 28 at Winnington Park; entries close June 12. The junior championships are on July 19 at Woodbank Park, Stockport ; entries close on July 3.
Entry forms for both Northern and Cheshire championships can be obtained from Mr. R. F. Hubbard, 44 Tollemache St., New Brighton.
