The West Lancashire Cross-country Union held their annual novice championship from the Makerfield enclosure, Newton-le-Willows, on Saturday.
There was an entry of 190 runners, representing 19 teams. T. Broderick (Royal Engineers, St. Helens) led throughout, until the last furlong, when P. Keogan (Makerfield) sprinted home, to win by five seconds in 31 mins. 7 secs. Makerfield Harriers, with 17 points, gained team honours and the H. S. Finney championship trophy over a five miles course. Broderick gained the unplaced medal and W. Richardson (Wallasey Harriers) was the first Merseyside runner home.
