Cheshire County Cross-Country Championships at Winnington Park were keenly contested. The first race over 2½ miles for the youths was very exciting.
The club title was won by Sale Harriers by one point from Wirral A.C. J. Price, as l forecast, led the way in. He is a youth of outstanding ability. 1, J. Price (East Cheshire H.); 2, G. Torrible (Wirral A.C.); 3, P. M. Goodier (Sale H.); 4, L. Barnes (Sale H.). Team placings were: 1, Sale H. 31 pts.; 2, Wirral A.C. 32 pts.; 3, East Cheshire H. 40 pts.; 4, Macclesfield H. 46 pts
The seniors raced over 7½ miles and J. J. Kay (Wirral A.C. 6 miles N.C.A.A. Champion) put up a great performance by beating a class field in 46 mins. 40 secs. F. Gratton the Macclesfield Marathon runner followed, with veteran Alf Tyrer, Sutton H. (ex N.C.A.A. and N.C.A.A. marathon champion) close up third. It is remarkable how Tyrer keeps up his form against far younger competitors. He was Northern cross-country champion In 1939.
