Hanna close to two minute 'barrier'

At Kirkby last Tuesday, Doug Hanna clocked 2 mins. 1.1 secs, for the 880 yds., after leading through the first 440 in an ideal 59 secs. Both he and Barrie Smith, who recorded 2 mins. 3 secs., faded slightly over the second 440 to finish 4th and 5th respectively.

Recently a number of ex-members have re-joined the club with the intention of training seriously. As the length of time since their last active days ranges from 1 to 6 years, this is quite a move on their parts.

This influx makes us wonder if there are any other ex-members who have considered returning to the active days of school. If so, they would be made most welcome - whether throwers, jumpers or simply as helpers to hold a watch at our training sessions.

Information about the club can be obtained from its cross-country secretary at 14 Balmoral Road, New Brighton.

7.15 next Wednesday (13th) sees the return of our weekly visits to the Technical Grammar's gymnasium at Mosslands Drive. These sessions are aimed at giving an all-round true fitness, lacking in most would-be athletes.

During the winter months the Thursday night track visits are to be discontinued.
