Wallasey A.C. went to Moss Farm, Winnington, last Saturday, to run three teams in the Cheshire Road Relay Championships and their 'A' team won the junior event. The full course of 3¼ miles was divided into six legs.
It was a wonder there was a winner in the junior event at all, as the race got off to a false start owing to mistakes in the marking of the course which misdirected the young runners.
When the race was re-started, Dave Lockley covered the distance in the fastest time of 17.09 mins., and with his team-mates Steve Walker and Phil Wealthy clocking 17.02 and 18.58, Youth 'A' were home and dry.
SENIOR RELAY
In the Senior Relay over the full distance, Barrie Smith ran a lap in 17.02 mins, and Mike McNamee and Doug Hanna both had laps under 18, but Wallasey could only manage fifth place out of six teams. Wirral A.C. were the winners.
Today the seniors are running in the Sefton Park Road Relays. In this we hope to do better than last week with Wallasey's cross-country international, Ron Barlow, and Marathon international Brian Woodford back in the team. There will be the usual club run from the club H.Q.
