Last Saturday's senior mob run at Woolton over Liverpool Harriers' 5¼ mile course saw Barlow of Wallasey Athletic Club first man home in 28 minutes 50 seconds. The course was firm without being too hard although there were one or two slippery patches.
Wallasey's second counter was John Wright in fifth place with Mick Firth producing some good running to come 27th. Brian Woolford, Wallasey's international marathon runner, is still recovering from a leg complaint and took the race steadily to come 37th, six places ahead of David Field. Wirral A.C. were team winners with 123 points, Wigan A.C. a surprising 2nd with 135 points and Pembroke Harriers 4th with 150 prints.
In the boys' and youths' race over one lap of the same course as the seniors covered, Barry Smith was unfortunate in having to drop out whilst in the lead. It is felt that Barry would profit by doing some longer distance training. Dave Lockley came 13th overall with John Jones 19th.
Today's mob run will be for seniors and juniors only and will be held at St. Helens, Marshall's Cross. Sutton Harriers are the hosts and the course is six miles, the race starts at 3 p.m.
INVITATION RACE
On October 31 it is proposed to hold an invitation cross-country race from the club headquarters. Any schools interested in entering will be welcome. The boys' race will be over 3 miles and the youths, 5 miles. The start is at 3 p.m. and any now members will be made welcome.
