At Woolton last Saturday Wallasey Athletic Club members took part in the first Mob run of the new cross-country season and Ron Barlow as expected, obliged by taking 1st place.
Unfortunately due to lack of information no team results are to hand but from the placings of the Wallasey team it would appear that on this occasion Wirral Athletic Club finished in front. Wallasey however, were without two of their top runners, John Wright and Brian Woolford and this meant that the other members of the team were now given a chance to get amongst the leaders.
Kevin Mather, rapidly improving and showing once again the form, which took him to second place in last season's County Championship, finished in 4th position. Third man home and showing a welcome return to the country and occupying 14th position was Roy Parry. John Young running a steady race finished in 23rd place, David Field, only a Junior, finished a creditable 45th, Brian Chalton running below form completed the Wallasey team in 69th position. Wallasey's other runner, another Junior Tony Parry, ran steadily to finish 81st.
This Saturday the senior team travel to the Lake District to compete in the Derwentwater 10-mile Road Race.
