Athletic club's Christmas Handicap to-day

Wallasey Athletic Club to-day hold their annual Christmas Handicap from Leasowe Rd. H.Q., starting at 3 p.m.

This race is a traditional event organised every year by most athletic clubs. Members, young and old, are sent off at intervals with every finishing runner receiving a prize.

The course will be down Leasowe Road to the Common with the run home by way of the embankment and shore, where the back markers will no doubt be overhauling the field.

Scratch man will be club captain John Wright, starting some six minutes behind the first runners away, and he can be expected to cover the 3½ mile course in about 17½ minutes actual running time.

Next Saturday there will be a club run from H.Q., at 3.15 p.m.

Applications for membership will be welcomed by general secretary Matt Smith, 29 Beechwood Avenue, or Bob McCaig, 30 Taunton Road (telephone New Brighton 1632).
