Today sees the second of this season's mob runs for Liverpool & District clubs. which will be held from Boundary Harriers H.Q. at Old Roan, Aintree. commencing at 3 p.m.
Wallasey A.C. have a stronger team available than for the first mob run won by Ron Barlow a fortnight ago, and they can be expected to seriously extend the Pembroke team with Barlow again, challenging for the individual race.
Club captain John Wright and cross-country captain Brian Woolford will both be in the field and if Pete and Dave White, Brian Chalton, Phil Townsend, Kevin Mather and Billy Warris give good support Wallasey will be very close to Pembroke when the final count is made.
However, these mob runs are held principally to give early season competition rather than being a major objective in themselves and it is perhaps more important to view them as an opportunity for team building for the Cheshire and Liverpool & District championships to be held on January 7 and 14 respectively.
In this connection the club are fortunate to again have the services of Tony Townsend, who for the past 18 months has been on Army service in Cyprus. He is now home again and with the running he is already getting at Loughborough College should be a most useful Senior reinforcement at championship time.
Travelling arrangements for today's mob run, which will include a race for boys and youths are to meet at Liverpool Pier Head at 1.30 p.m.
Next Saturday a training run will be held from club H.Q. at Leasowe Road, commencing at 3.15 p.m.
Inquiries concerning club membership will be welcomed by secretary, Matt Smith at 29 Beechwood Avenue, or Bob McCaig. 30 Taunton Road (tel. New Brighton 1632).
