George Band, club senior champion in 1929 and 1932, was a welcome visitor from Wilmslow when Wallasey Athletic Club cross-country championships were decided at Leasowe last Saturday afternoon.
In the senior race over 9 miles, after a stern struggle between Denis Dickinson and Arnold Dinsdale, the latter opened up a lead of 100 yards when 7 miles had been covered. Dickinson's efforts to reduce the gap were unavailing, and Dinsdale finished a worthy winner. Foster and Tony Dickinson finished in 3rd and 4th places, as they also did last year.
The junior race over 7 miles was an easy victory for Bob Johnston, with Kelly and McFarland, filling 2nd and 3rd places. The youths covered 3 miles and the winner was the youths' captain, Eric Weir, with Ledward and Maddock 2nd and 3rd. Unfortunately, a faulty watch prevented accurate timing and ruined the sealed handicaps in conjunction with each race.
The club girls' netball team had a field day last Saturday afternoon. when they defeated Oakdale Youth Club by 31 goals to 6 in the Wallasey Netball League, Penny Price. W.A.C.'s shooter, notched 20 goals.
For this Saturday afternoon's triangular match at Court Hey, Broadgreen, with Liverpool Pem'broke and Liverpool University, and for next week's Liverpool & District C.C.U. championships, W.A.C. meet at Liverpool Landing Stage at 2 p.m.
