Although Wallasey A.C. were eliminated in the Northern Knock-out Cup at Wigan, they can take a lot of satisfaction in the continuing improvement in performances.
Phil Smith achieved a season's best in the 100 metres of 11.9. Good support in three events came from Dave Pendleton who is slowly returning to full fitness. Dave Walton doubled up in the 400 and 800 metres.
The versatile Bob Downie produced a season's best of 11 metres in the demanding triple jump. The 5,000 metres saw Mike Garbutt run his usual consistent race. John Cottrell, enjoying a good track season, ran a good 10,000 metres in 34 minutes.
On the road race scene Wallasey A.C. are laying plans to promote the popular Wallasey 10 miles road run on October 2.
Support for this event will again be supplied, by Wirral Leisure Services. Once again the charities benefiting will be Clatterbridge Lung Cancer Appeal, Myasthenia Gravis Research and Muscular Dystrophy. Watch this space for further news.
