Wallasey Athletic Club travelled to Blackburn for its first Northern League meeting of the season, and encountered some fierce opposition.
However, there were some good performances. Steve Moores ran the 100 metres in 12.6 seconds, then the 400 metres in a personal best time of 53.8 seconds.
Keith Simpson gave an excellent performance in the 400 metre hurdles, finishing second in 64.7 seconds, despite falling at the penultimate hurdle, when in a clear lead!
Robin Jones ran well in the 5,000 metres to finish third in a personal best time of 15 minutes 35.9 seconds. Bob Brimage was fifth in the 3,000 metre steeplechase in a time of 10 minutes 33.8 seconds.
Dave Pendleton and Alan Johnson showed consistency by participating well in several events. Steve Pratt and Rob McWilliam made good track debuts for the club.
Meanwhile at Kirkby, Paula Simpson ran in the under-14s' 1,500 metre race for Merseyside Schools against Dublin. A personal best time of five minutes 19 seconds gained her fourth place.
