The second Liverpool & District Cross-Country League saw a record number of 15 Wallasey athletes completing the senior race.
Robin Jones who had been first scorer in the previous race in 46th place was again first in though showing a startling improvement to 22nd place. Next in was Pete Lonsdale improving 10 places on the previous race to finish 68th.
Gordon Rowe suffered after a fast start but still finished 84th, while Dave Walton continued his progress back after injury to finish 103rd.
Graham Beggs was next in, in 123rd place with Nick Burke having his best ever cross-country run to complete the scoring in 132nd place. Rob Howarth did well in his first senior outing in 153rd with the other Wallasey finishers being James Downey - 157, Dave Pendleton - 158, Alan Jenkins - 159, Mike Garbutt - 160, Paul McQuade - 178, Mal Hardcastle - 197, Dave McGlade - 199 and Bob Phillips - 205.
In the Llandudno 10 mile Road Race the previous week, Marie Burke was second lady to finish and recorded a personal best of 62.15. Marie has been in tremendous form lately with her previous race but one seeing her the fastest runner on the day in the Merseyside Women's Road Relay Championships, in which she, Lynne Kennedy and Deirdre Gibbon combined to take third place. The best performance by a Wallasey women's team for a number of years.
