In the final Northern Track and Field League meeting of the season Wallasey A.C. finished in fifth place to take fourth place overall in the division.
This was a fine overall performance and was built largely around a small group of athletes who have performed consistently over the season. Rob Howarth, Bob Brimage, Alan Johnson, Dave Pendleton and Phil Smith each competed in all four meetings while Gordon Rowe and James Downey competed in three each, with all seven producing a number of good performances in the competition.
On the day one of the best performances came from Rob Howarth in taking third place in the 'A' 400m hurdles, while another was the third place in the 'B' 200m to Steve Barton. Steve, who was competing for the club on the track for the first time, also ran a good leg in the 4 x 400m relay, and will hopefully be a regular part
of the team next season.
In recent road races John Cottrell was the firsts of 28 Wallasey runners to finish in the Wirral Seaside Run, taking an overall seventh place, while Nick Burke ran a personal best time of 29:09 when finishing 131st in the Haigh Hall 5 mile race.
