Wallasey A.C. competed in the heats of the Pilkington's Trophy, gaining second place in the women's event and third in the men's.
Dave Pendleton showed exceptional form as he took second place in the 100 metres and then won at 200m, 400m and 800m. Dave also won the long jump and was second in the high jump.
Junior girls Liesel Phillips took first place in the 100m, 1,500m and long jump.
Wallasey A.C.'s club championships were begun the previous Wednesday at Woodchurch and produced a close race in the 3,000 metres. James Downey led for the first six laps before Ken Gibbons made a sustained attack over the last one-and-a-half laps to gain eventual victory. Dave Pendleton, finished strongly to take second place with James Downey third and Graham Beggs and Les Pullen also running well to take 4th and 5th places respectively. First girl was Collette Winstanley with Dave Beggs the first under-16.
Marie Burke improved her five-mile personal best twice in the space of two weeks as she took second places in two high standard local- road races. She narrowly failed to break the 30-minute barrier in recording 30:12 for the Birkenhead Park 5, but achieved that target 13 days later when completing the Haigh Hall 5 29:52.
