The fourth running of Wallasey Athletic Club's 10,000 metre track championships saw the fourth different winner, as Dave Wilson scored a convincing victory in his first attempt.
Keith Simpson made a brave attempt to go with Dave early on, but was eventually overhauled by Dave Walton and Pete Lonsdale who finished second and third respectively. Bob Brimage who had never previously been out of the first two had a below par run to finish fifth.
The performances of Pete Griffiths who was sixth and Nick Burke who was tenth, reflected the great improvement that both have made during the winter, while Les Pullin also ran well in finish 18th in his first-ever track race.
Two years ago Wallasey did not have a strong enough squad to enter a team for the Northern Counties 12-stage road relay. This year, despite late withdrawals, a high standard was maintained by all 12 who ran. Performance of the day was by Bob Brimage whose 29:04 long stage showed a dramatic return to form, being a full 54 seconds faster than the time of second fattest Dave Walton.
