Wallasey Athletic Club put up a good performance to finish fourth in the final of the Pilkington Trophy event last Sunday. Dave Pendleton, who has had an exceptionally good season at 800 metres and 400 metres, competed in those two events; again recording 2 minutes 4.6 secs and a personal best 54.1 secs.
In the under 13 girls events Joanne Johnson ran well to finish third at 800 metres, Jayne McCoy gained a fast time of 14.4 seconds in the 100 metres, and Colette Winstanley finished first B in the 1500 metres.
Rob Howarth was well down on his best time in the youths 800 metres, but set a personal best of 62.3 for 400 metres.
Wallasey gained, maximum points in the intermediate ladies high jump, with Helen Atherton finishing first A with a personal best of 1.45 metres, and Lisa O'Hara first B with 1.25 metres. Helen also finished first B in the long jump.
In the senior ladies events Anne Brimage competed in five events including finish in second B at 1500 metres, third B at 800 metres and third B at 200 metres. Lynne Kennedy, despite being ill during the week, finished second in the 1500 metres, while Francesca Phillips was third at 100 metres and second at 100 metres. Fran and Lynne also both reached the last five in the javelin.
Ian Wiggins led for much of the youths 1500 metres, but faded towards the end to finish in 4 mins. 40 secs., Andy Pennington who has run a number of very good 1500 metre races this season recorded four mins 33 secs. In the same race,
In the boys' 1500 metres Nigel Thompson finished fourth, while in the senior race, James Downey set a personal best of four mins 20.8 secs.
