Waiting for the gun are three of Wallasey's top young athletes who have all won places in the Merseyside schools team.
On the left is Janet McGee, who won the Wirral Schools' 400 metres and was second in the county trial at Kirkby.
On the right is Francesca Phillips, winner of the Wirral Schools' 400 metres hurdles and second in the Merseyside school championships.
Centre is Ian Mcleod, who did even better, winning the Wirral Schools' sprint double and the Merseyside senior boys' 200metres and finished second in the county 100 metres.
The successful trio run for Wallasey Athletic Club and all live locally. Their super performances took them into the county side, which they will run for today and tomorrow at Yeovil in the English Schools Championship.
