On Sunday, 1st June, Wallasey Athletic Club travelled to Witton Park, Blackburn, for another round of the G.R.E. Cup.
Wallasey had done extremely well to have come this far in a competition of very high standard.
Having disposed of such opposition as Wirral A.C. in the last round, Wallasey's hopes were high.
Unfortunate y, due to unforeseen absences, Wallasey had to field a much weakened team and against the opposition of Stretford, Blackburn, Liverpool, Pembroke and others, Wallasey had their hopes of any further progress dashed.
However, the team was by no means disgraced finishing in overall 5th place with a total of 58 points and giving some fine individual performances.
The best was by Kevin McGee in the 1500m, who did a Steve Ovett by kicking at the 200m mark, leaving some very good oppo-nents for dead.
Chris Preston, the club's throwing specialist, achieved a personal best performance in the shot with a throw of 13.02 metres, finishing in third place.
He also gained second place in the hammer and third place in the discus.
