Many local schools benefitted from having members of their team as members of Wallasey Athletic Club when they entered for the Wirral schools cross-country races last Saturday at the Oval Sports Centre.
The first of the girls' races was over one lap. Taking part were Joanne Macdonald, Carole Jenkinson, Janet Atherton and Paula Huston.
Nick Robinson competed over two laps and came 17th. This showed his considerable improvement since joining the club.
Eight runners entered the next race of around 3¼ miles. Chris Wright finished third, Rick Hemmings sixth, Kevin McGee 11th, Dave Southern 19th, Phil Ashley 27th, Tommy Bond 41st, Keith McAlister 42nd, Stuart Crowe 48th. The first 24 in this race are eligible to represent Wirral in the Merseyside Schools Championships early next month.
Rod Dixon showed his strength when he finished second in the senior race of around 3 miles.
