The disappointments and doubts raised by poor performances of the previous weekend were brushed aside by the superb track runs of last weekend.
There were many first places and personal best performances.
Special mention must be made of the 800 metre runners, who gained between them three first places in extremely excellent limes. Special mention, also, must be made of Neil Henfrey, who was competing, in this, his first ever competition.
Pete Jones regained his confidence by gaining first place in the 100, leading from beginning to end and a strong 2nd in the 400m although he wasn't too happy with his time, but then he rarely is.
This Saturday sees some of the Wallasey Athletic Club athletes competing in the Cheshire track and field championships at Warrington, and Sunday sees some of the female members taking part in the Merseyside track and field championships in Kirkby.
Next week sees many more school age members trying to gain a place in the English Schools Championships. The first stage is to
qualify in the Wirral Schools Championships to compete in the Merseyside Championships, both being held at the Oval Sports Centre.
