Wallasey ran in the annual Sefton Park road relays, which attract very tough local competition. Wallasey improved on last year's performance by finishing 14th in a race which was run in fairly strong winds. Kevin McGee ran the first leg and had a very good run to bring the team home in seventh position, completing the 3¼ miles in 17.01.
Bob Brimage ran second leg and also managed to come home in 7th place. Bob was slower than last year when he had a very good run but still managed to finish second fastest Wallasey runner in 17.56.
Rob Heap ran 3rd leg and he had a very good race, running the 3¼ miles in 18.04 and finishing in 9th position. Pete Jones ran 4th leg and, despite not running far a few weeks and not covering this distance for a while, managed to bring the team home in 12th place in 19.36 - a good performance by Pete. Alan Smith, who has run so consistently through all this season's track races, suffered through a leg injury which he has had for several months. Despite this injury, Alan again ran and brought the team home in 12th position in a time of 19.46. Laurie Redfern ran the last leg and ran a good race, his first for the club, coming home in 13th position despite running the wrong way in 21.16. This meeting marked the end of the track season and the start of the road races and cross-country races. Anybody interested In running, be it road races, cross-country or even track running, should think about joining a club now to be fit for the important races.
