The weekend brought the county championships upon Wallasey A.C. with the male section running in the Cheshire championships on Saturday and the ladies section competing in the Merseyside championships on Sunday.
On Saturday at Woodchurch track Dave Smith produced Wallasey's first medal in the youths' 800m.
In the colts' 800m, Steve D'Arcy ran a fine race being within a second of his personal best in bad conditions to gain third place and another medal.
Bob Brimage brought Wallasey their first title in the 3,000 metres steeplechase.
The next medal was gained by Pete Jones, running in the senior 400m. The junior men's 1500m brought Wallasey another county title, Kevin McGee winning his race comfortably. Ian Macleod, in the 200 metres, left the field behind in his path as he ran away with the youths' 200 metres title.
In the senior ladies 3,000 metres Sue Lloyd not only took the county title but also set a championship best time as she ran away with the race in a time of 10:43.0 seconds. In the senior ladies 800 metres, Ann Brimage also took a county title adding to the one won by her husband the day before, Ann set a personal best to win this title in a time of 2:37.2 breaking her best time of 2:40.0 which she set only three weeks ago.
The next medal was won by Lynn Jenkinson, returning to form after a bad start to the season. Lynn, running in the intermediate ladies 800 metres, put in a strong finish to take second place in a very close race in a time of 2:20.4. Barbara Jones proved just how close a race it was coming fourth only a second behind Lynn in 2:21.5 a personal best performance by her. In the intermediate 1500 metres Shioban Power finished third in a personal best time of 5:09.0 a fine time in only her second 1500 metres for the club. The last medal was won by the intermediate ladles 4 x 100 metre team who ran a very good race to finish third in 54.8seconds.
