Wallasey A.C. youths' road relay team ran on Sunday at Bebington in the Cheshire Championship Road Relays and carried off four gold medals. Kevin McGee, the youth's captain, also received a gold medal for his running of the fastest lap in a time of 14 mins. 34 secs.
The times for the other team members were Rob Heap, 15 mins. 55 secs, Alan Smith, 16 mins. 19 secs. and Tommy Bond, 16 mins. 31 secs. The competing colts team turned in some reasonable performances, but there is lots of room for improvement.
The boys' team also put up some creditable performances and we look forward to some successes from them in the coming season of cross-country events. The seniors team race, run in worsening weather conditions, turned in a good performance to gain ninth place.
At an open meeting at Kirkby Stadium last Wednesday, the ladies section returned some personal best times. Pamela Hanna in the 200 metres had a P.B. of 29 secs, Joanne McDonald, 29.8 secs, and Carole Jenkinson, 33.9 secs. In the 800 metres senior ladies, Anne Brimage had a P.B. of 2.46.8.
Lynn Jenkinson in the intermediate 800 metres came first in a time of 2 mins. 28.1 secs. and in the same race Barbara Jones had a P.B. of 2 mins. 32 secs. Joanne McDonald came first in her 800 metres in 2 mins. 37.1 secs. and Carole Jenkinson returned a time of 2 mins. 42.5 secs.
The same meeting saw colt Stephen D'Arcy run a P.B. time for his 800 metres of 2 mins. 32.8 secs. and after a very bumpy start, Gary Henwood, Mark Wigfield, Phil D'Arcy and Mike Perry turned in creditable performances on a very cold and blustery night.
Bob Brimage for the seniors ran his 800 metres in a time at 2 mins. 02.1 secs. and Mark Bollard ran an extremely good 200 metres in a P.B. time of 24.3 secs. Saturday sees Wallasey A.C. as hosts for the first Cheshire Cross-Country League meeting on the fields behind St. George's School, Leasowe Road, at 1.30 pm. We are still open for new members, particularly colts. (11-year-olds plus), so come and see us run and maybe join in.
