On Wednesday August 17 Wallasey Athletic Club played host at Woodchurch track to Deeside and Frodsham clubs in a Cheshire League meeting.
In a fine, sporting atmosphere the athletes provided a good evening's entertainment for the many parents and supporters who were there to cheer them.
Lynne Jenkinson won the junior ladies 800 metres in fine style thus gaining maximum points. Once again, Wallasey were unable to field an under-13 ladies relay, team owing to a lack of members in this age group, so parents if you have a fleet-footed daughter aged 11 or over, Wallasey Athletic Club would like to know.
Kevin McGee won the youths' 1,500 metres and Ian Macleod the boys' 800 metres. Ian's victory was especially notable because it was his first competitive 800 metres race. Wallasey were well represented in the colts 800 metres, the race being won by Phil D'Arcy who was followed home by his brother Steve with Gary Henwood finishing a close third.
These three colts were joined by Mike Kerry in the colts 4x200 metres relay, which they won by a distance. It was very encouraging to see the red vests of Wallasey emerging from the darkness of night in first place.
The club would like to thank all the supporters who turned up to help on Wednesday evening, and for the support given to the raffle and refreshments. The club are hoping to wind up the track season with a successful meeting on Bank Holiday Monday, August 29, at Cadbury's, Reeds Lane, Moreton.
The Wallasey athletes would like local people to attend the meeting which is expected to provide excellent competition throughout the afternoon. Seven local clubs including Wallasey and a team from Cadbury's will be competing for seven challenge trophies.
