Wallasey Athletic Club palled on Saturday to the Liverpool Harriers first and second place, well ahead of the field. They finished tenth out of 18 starts in the Sefton Park Road Relay.
A wrong turn by Pete Jones on the badly-marked course cost the club a valuable place but a creditable first leg was run by Dave Lockley in 16.52, suffering from a recent knee injury.
Veteran Don Stroud made his leg in 20.28, not too far behind lads half his age.
The club hosts the Cheshire County A.A.A. today at the Sports Hall, Guinea Gap, Seacombe, for the senior county road relay over an 18-mile course.
For spectators, the race starts at 2p.m. prompt and will be along the promenade as far as Vale Park.
