Wallasey Athletic Club's Lee McGinley, 16, won the National Amateur Athletic Association's youths' triple jump title on Saturday. Competing at Crystal Palace, he leapt 13.65 metres.
Lee has already won the Northern title and is a schoolboy international. It now looks certain that he will be chosen to compete for Britain in the forthcoming set of under-20 internationals.
Other good performances at the championships came from Chris Preston, who came sixth in the junior hammer with a throw of 45.02 metres, and from Bill Innes, who came 16th in the hardest competition of the championships, the junior high jump, with a jump of 1.85 metres, 6ft. 1in.
Earlier in the week, Lee competed in the Stretford League alongside Bill Innes and sprinter Pete Jones, and all three won their competitions.
