Last Saturday, Wallasey A.C. put in some hard training in preparation for the Liverpool & District Championships next week.
The runners divided into three packs. The youths, under the direction of their captain, R. Yeoman, took a short 5 mile course, and in a fast run, Fishwick was once more prominent finishing well clear of his clubmates.
Of the juniors, N. Marples showed his best form, returning a time of just over 42 minutes for the 6½ mile course. Peers also did very well to finish close behind. The seniors were particularly energetic covering a distance of 9 miles. J. Edwards once more finished first, a hundred yards ahead of J. Williams. The latter ran well particularly over the last 3 miles when he came up very strongly, Sawyer and Ledward, both turning out for the first time for several weeks, were not too happy over the distance. If they can get back into training, their help should be a great asset to the club next week. Another ' runner ' to put in an appearance after a lapse of several weeks was the secretary, R. Hyde. Going out on his own, complete with sweater and scarf despite the warm sun he made excellent time as far as the marshes and back. 'Reg' is getting into hard training again doubtless with the intention of springing a surprise in the district.
