Wallasey Athletic Club had highly satisfactory results in the Women's junior and senior road relays held in Leverhulme Park during last Saturday's thunderstorm.
Diane Kelly ran a fast, junior lap and came sixth in her event with a time of 8min. 51 secs. after a steady and sensible run. Lynn Carter took over from her and managed to pull up two places to fourth position with a time of 9 mins. 10 secs.
Karen Duffy, in her first competitive 'long' run held on to that place and her lap took 9 mins 54 secs. Never before has the junior team finished so high up in a relay.
The senior team were keen to hang on to their title but, despite a tremendous run from Margaret Ashcroft, had to be content with second place.
Margaret was in the unfortunate position, when she took over the last leg of this race of not being able to see the girl running for Blackburn because she was so far ahead. Even so she ran the fastest lap of 15 mins 50 secs.
The next fastest lap to Margaret was that of Hilary Mathews, of Blackburn - a full 16 seconds slower. This run of Wallasey's 'Mashey' demonstrates how close she is to breaking into the international limelight.
