On Saturday Wallasey Athletic Club were hosts to teams from all over the north west in the first Northern League meeting of the season. The meeting took place at Woodchurch track, Wallasey's home ground,
There were some good performances from the home team but it was perhaps lack of numbers which led to them being placed second, with Warrington taking first place.
Wallasey's club captain, Phil Truscott, set a good example by competing in six events and producing good performances in all of them.
A new club record was set in the hammer throwing section by Chris Preston, who threw to a distance of 41.52 metres and came second in the 'A' competition.
Bob Brimage won the 3,000 steeplechase in style, while Eric Taylor and Mike Teahan made a clean sweep and won the 'A' and 'B' javelin respectively, as did Phil Truscott and Keith Sorrell in the long jump.
Wallasey were second in both relay events. Phil Truscott, Mike Teahan and Alan Cheers and Keith Sorrell nursing the 4 x 100 in 47.1 seconds, and Dave Ashton, Phil Wealthy, Phil Truscott and Phil Wade finishing the 4 x 400 in 3 minutes 37.2 seconds.
