The search is on for Wallasey's Sports Personality and the NEWS is co-operating in the selection.
The 'personality' may be male or female, amateur or professional but must have been born or at present reside in Wallasey and most important should be a regular participant in his or her sport.
The winner will receive the magnificent trophy which was presented in 1962 by Wallasey's M.P.; Mr. Ernest Marples, who himself takes part in many sporting activities, and is interested in encouraging participation.
The list of previous winners shows that five different sporting activities have provided winners during the last ten years:
1962, Shelagh Warrington (swimming); 63, Kevin Mather (athletics); 64, Tony Jordan (badminton); 65, Ron Barlow (athletics); 66, Ian Hart (rugby); 67, Alan Williams (swimming); 68, Barbara Banks (athletics); 69, Neil Moir (golf); 70, Alan Williams (swimming); 71, Carl Gee (athletics).
Clubs and organisations are requested to send their nominations to the Editor, Wallasey News, Seaview Road, Wallasey, giving full details of performances, particularly during 1972 and if possible a photograph suitable for reproduction.
Nominations will be accepted up to May 16 and details printed in the NEWS.
A coupon will be published in the NEWS on May 19 and readers asked to vote.
The presentation of the trophy will be made at the official opening of the Sports Festival at the Riverside Restaurant on Friday, June 1.
