Another early season track meeting at The Oval, Port Sunlight, last week, produced some encouraging results for Wallasey Athletic Club for such an early date.
The sprinters were glad to have their events back on the programme. In the men's 100 metres, Dave Ashton was first, although still a junior, in 12.3 secs. Alan Cheers was third and Doug Hanna fourth, both in 12.8 secs. In the 200 metres Dave Ashton was second in 23.0 secs., and Alan Cheers fourth in 25.5 secs.
Dave Lockley and Bob Warburton both ran in the 1,500 metres, coming second and fourth respectively in 4 min. 9 secs., and 4 mins, 12 secs. Bob Brimage easily won the 5,000 metres in a time of 16.12.
Margaret Ashcroft and Barbara Banks both ran in the Ladies' 1,500 metres, Barbara winning in a time of 4 min. 40 secs. and Margaret coming second in 4:50.0. Margaret also ran the 100 metres in 14.5 secs, and narrowly missed winning the 200 metres in 29.3 secs., Barbara coming fourth in 30.2 secs.
Dave Grey was another athlete not missing anything. He won the boys 1,500 metres in 4:46, came second in the 100 metres in 13.2 secs., and was third in the youths' 200 metres in 28.0 secs.
Will Innes won the youths 100 metres in 13.2 secs., and was second in the 200 metres in 28.0 sees.
