Four competitors from the Wallasey Athletic Club took part In the boys' two-mile race at Winnington Park, near Northwich, recently. They were Dave Gray, who finished 18th; Lawrence Jones, 39th; Brendan Kelly, 41st, and Chris Devereaux, who came 42nd.
There was no team in the men's seven-mile event, but individual performance came from Dave Lockley, who finished 9th, just missing a place in the Cheshire team, which the first eight competitors gained. Bob Brimage came in 30th place, with Peter Lewis 36th, Bob Warburton 42nd and Don Stroud 68th.
The Cosford Indoor Games were held at R.A.F. Cosford last Saturday. Only a small contingent of Wallasey athletes took part, with Dave Lockley in 5th place in the 2,000 metres in a time of 6 min 1 sec.
Three Wallasey girls took part in the women's 1,500 metres over seven and a half laps of the track. Barbara Banks finished 4th in 4 min. 38 sec. and Margaret Ashcroft came 6th in 4 min. 47 sec.
Pete Lewis ran in the last race of the afternoon, the men's 1,500 metres, in which he was third. He took the lead with only three laps to go, but was overhauled in the last 100 yards and finished in a time of 3 min. 57 sec.
