Wallasey Athletic Club's women's team retained the runners-up position they held In the Northern League last season.
Barbara Banks was third, the same position as in her fast league appearance, a good performance when one considers her absence from athletics all summer.
Stretford Athletic Club won the team title for the first time with last year's winners Airedale & Spen Valley, the team Wallasey came within a hair's breadth of defeating, well down in fifth place. Most encouraging performance of the local team was Margaret Ashcroft's, in her first run for some months in top competition, she finished 12th in 22 min. 1 sec. only 18 seconds behind Janice Watts who was 10th.
Despite Janice's slightly disappointing run she is likely to join Barbara in representing the Northern League against teams from the South and Midlands.
Mary Caldwell, though not very fit, managed 35th place, confirming her ability to maintain a very consistent standard of performance. Her sister Margaret showed much improved form in 47th position.
Today the club Is holding the annual Christmas Handicap run, and all members are reminded to bring a small prize worth 25p. The race is to start at 3 p.m. Circuit training at the Technical Grammar School is cancelled until the school returns after Christmas.
