Track and field events



Wallasey Athletic Club members put up good performances at local matches last Saturday.

At Castletown Viaduct open sports miler Dennis Dickinson ran well to finish second in a handicap mile. In the Inter-university Christie match at Manchester. Vic Tindall, in his first appearance in competition this season displayed his brilliant natural ability to reach second place in the long jump event with a jump of 22ft. 3½ ins. Unfortunately, pressure of work prevents this fine athlete from appearing frequently on the track this season.

In the inter-school match at Manchester Athletic Club's track at Fallowfield, the Wallasey Grammar School mile record holder, Ron Loveridge, showed his best form to date in returning a time of 4 mins. 44 secs., when finishing 5th in the mile.

Track and field events facilities at the Tower Athletic Ground, New Brighton, are now available for training on Monday, Wednesday And Friday evening.

While training in London for the Scottish championships last week, Julian Creus 29 years old Liverpool weight-lifter, who trains with Wallasey Athletic Club, broke the world bantamweight snatch record at 201 lbs. This British champion retained his featherweight title for the 4th year, and has been selected to represent Britain in the Olympic Games.
