Outstanding feature of the Liverpool Harriers, Wirral A.C. and Wallasey Athletic Club fixture at Leasowe last Saturday was the performance of R. Johnston, the Wallasey A.C. youth captain in spreadeagling the field in the youth's race held over a 3½ miles course.
The Wallasey youths' team without the services of G. A Walker, champion two seasons ago, finished a good second to Liverpool Harriers in the team placings with Wirral A.C. third.
Seniors and juniors ran together over 6½ miles with J. Greene, of Wirral A.C. leading all the way to finish first. W. R. Bee and K. Thompson were unable to turn out for Wallasey but the home team gave its best performance of the season. E. C. Foster, Wallasey A.C. vice-captain, was in fine form and ran powerfully to finish first for Wallasey in third position. Second place was gained by K. Hall of Wirral runner-up in the Liverpool & District Senior Cross-Country Championship two years ago. J. Edwards, of Wallasey was fourth, Wirral's team six gained a narrow victory from Wallasey with Liverpool Harriers third.
In a field of over 50 runners was A. P. Watson, hon. secretary, Wallasey A.C. 1945/6, paying a flying visit to Wallasey. The starter was W. R. Richardson Wallasey triple Cross-Country Champion, 1933/5, and now a vice-president of Wallasey A.C.
This Saturday, Wallasey seniors and juniors visit Liverpool University at Wyncote, Mather Ave., for an inter-club run, and youths team turn out at Leasowe Road.
