Guest runners supplied the main interest when Wallasey Athletic Club ran against Sefton Harriers over a 6 miles cross-country course at West Derby last Saturday.
E. Curry, of London University, running for Sefton, and J. Leach, brother of R. C. Leach, the former Cheshire County Mile Champion, and a member of Portsmouth A.C., representing Wallasey, made the pace over the first three miles with J. Edwards close behind. Leach was forced to lose ground at 4½ miles after being held up by barbed wire and Curry and Edwards had a great tussle for first place, the former just pulling away on the run in. Curry is obviously a most promising distance runner, whilst Edwards, the Wallasey champion, found some of his old sprightliness for the first time this season. Leach is a good stylish runner who should do well in his future races. After these three there was much evidence of Christmas festivities about. Those runners who were out, and they were only a fraction of the previous week's numbers were not unduly exerting themselves but the Wallasey team proved easy winners.
To-day, Liverpool Harriers and Wirral A.C. visit Leasowe for an inter-club contest with Wallasey A.C over 3, 6 and 9 miles starting at 3-30 prompt.
