Sutton Harriers, National Cross-Country Champions, won the Birkenhead Silver Linings 24 miles road relay last Saturday after a great race with Salford Harriers, who finished only 26 seconds behind with Manchester Athletic Club; third.
Included in Sutton's team of eight (each ran three miles) were the two international runners, A. E. Tyrer and T. Fillingham but it was their first relay runner, W. McMinnis, who did fastest time of the day - 14 mins. 37 secs. Wallasey A.C. ran well to finish 6th in such good company and an outstanding feature of this performance by the locals club was the brilliant running of their young novice champion, R. Johnston, who easily recorded the best Wallasey time.
This Saturday, Wallasey A.C. open the cross-country season with an easy run from the Leasowe Road winter quarters, when new members will be especially welcomed. Inquiries to R. F. Hubbard, hon. secretary, 39 Beech Road, Birkenhead. Phone - Birkenhead 3550.
