H. Lutas, junior captain of Wallasey Athletic Club, won the Brookes Award, decided on a points aggregate of three events, 220 yards, high jump and throwing the javelin, at Port Sunlight Oval track on Thursday of last week.
This award, for annual competition by members of Wallasey A.C. under 21, has recently been kindly presented to the club by Mrs. Brookes, and is a fitting reminder of the great service rendered to athletics and Wallasey Athletic Club in particular, during a lifetime of interest in the sport.
Lutas gained a decisive win in the 220 yards by being almost 20 yards ahead of his nearest rival, T. Prydderch. With a high jump of 4 ft. 5 ins. and a javelin throw of 83 ft. 2 ins., Lutas gained 107 points to win by a margin of 17 points from E. J. Bollard, who headed the field in the high jump (4 ft. 8 ins.) and javelin throw (103 ft.), but was nearly 30 yards slower than Lutas in the sprint. Third place was shared by W. Wright, A. Bennett and T. Prydderch.
