Novice championship of Wallasey Athletic Club will be held over a five miles course of country and shore at Leasowe on Saturday.
The club's definition of a novice is one who has never won a prize at a distance of one mile or over, exclusive of prizes won at school. This year the race will be very open with about a dozen runners hoping to win the premier award, the Wright Cup and replica. Last year's winner was G. A. Walker, of Wallasey Grammar School, who last summer won the school 'double,', half-mile and one mile.
The start is at 3-15 p.m. and the course lies down, the country parallel with Leasowe Rd. to. Pasture Rd., turn on to Embankment, over the shore and up Telegraph Lane to the half-mile finish on Leasowe Rd.
Anyone interested in athletics either actively or non-actively - and the club has a pressing need for non-running personnel -can contact the secretary any Saturday afternoon at the quarters in Leasowe Rd.
The hon. secretary is R. F. Hubbard, 39 Beech Road, Birkenhead ('phone Birkenhead 3550).
