A small team of senior athletes represented Wallasey A.C. as guests at Mather Avenue, Allerton, last Saturday, in a track and field meeting between Chester College, and the Universities of Liverpool and Bangor.
With four competitors Wallasey could not be expected to make a significant impression on the final placing but the individual results augur well for the new season. Pete Lewis fared best, in a biting wind and was only narrowly beaten into second place in the 1,500 metres with a time of 4 min. 9 secs.
Phil Wealthy, racing on cinders for the first time in seven months, gained third place in the 800 metres with an excellent early-season time of 2 min. 0.5 secs. Phil Truscott, a recent acquisition to the club, could not maintain an extremely fast outgoing pace in the 400 metres and missed the final three placings. Mike Teahan completed the club's contribution with fourth place in the javelin, throwing 118 ft 4 ins.
The season's first meeting of the Stretford Track & Field League is to be held today, for both ladies and men. Athletes should meet at St. Alban's Road, Liscard, at 12:15 p.m.
