In the Burtonwood road relay, Wallasey Athletic Club finished 22nd out of the 42 teams that finished.
Disappointing performances by Pete Lewis and Bob Brimage over the fast 3.6 mile course resulted in the team dropping from 14th position at the end of the first leg.
A. Byrne (Bolton) led from R. Barlow (Sutton) at the end of the first circuit for Wallasey A.C., Dave Lindsey finished 14th in 17mins. 52 secs., less than a minute behind the leaders.
On the second leg, Ron Hill, the Commonwealth Marathon Champion, was overhauled by C. Fay (Blackburn) who set the second fastest time of the day (16 min. 35 secs.). Bob Brimage failed to improve the local clubs' position, dropping back to 21st place.
The third stage saw Pete Lewis (Wallasey) dropping a further three places, as S. Kenyon regained the lead for the Bolton club, leaving M. Freary the formality of the final stage; Freary refused to relax and set the fastest time of the day, 16 min. 25 secs.
Blackburn A.C. were second and City of Stoke third.
Wallasey's Mike Whiteside regained a place in 19 min. 14. Secs. the second fastest of the Wallasey runners.
