Wallasey Athletic Club, took part in the Sefton Road Relays at Sefton Park, Aigburth, last Saturday. Dave Lockley ran the first leg of the 6x3 miles relay in a fast time of 16 mins. 9 secs: and returned in 2nd place, 4 secs. behind the leader.
He handed over to Danny Bremner, who was just recovering from 'flu, and ran the second leg in 17 mins. 34 secs., but dropped three places to hand over to Barry Smith in 5th place.
Barry, who had recently returned from a holiday in Spain, ran better than expected, dropping only one place to hand over to Johnny Jones at 6th in a time of 17 mins. 22 secs.
Johnny completed the 4th stage without change, in 17 mins. 19 secs., and Mike Teahan returned a time of 18 mins dead, picking up one place to 5th.
Dave Lindsay ran well to bring the team home in 5th place with a time of 16 mins. 59 secs, a time bettered by only one other Wallasey runner, Dave Lockley.
Wallasey entered two teams on this occasion, the 'B' team being represented on the first leg by Phil Wealthy, 18 mins.
51 secs., 15th; Doug Hanna , 19 mins. 21 secs., 17th; Len Durkin, 19 mins. 13 secs., picking up to 15th; and John Lynch, 21 mins. 38 secs., 16th; Dave Hughes, 19 mins. 22 secs., 12th; Alan Keating 21 mins. 21 secs, finishing in 12th position. Pembroke A. and C.C., with a time of 98 mins. 31 secs, they beat Wallasey `A' (5) by 5 mins. 02 secs. and Wallasey 'B' (12th) by 11 mins. 15 secs.
Nineteen teams started but six dropped out and one team was disqualified, leaving 12 teams finishing.
