Wallasey A.C. have two teams in today's two mile team race at Stretford, whilst Dave Lockley goes for his final run of the season 'over the sticks' in the youths' 1,000 metres steeplechase.
The final choice of teams has been delayed until today because of injuries, but the line-up to looks to be: Mike Teahan, Alan Keating and Doug Hanna in the 'A' team,. with John Morley, John Anderson and Carl Gee in the 'B' team.
Dave Lockley has had much the better of his local rivals in recent races and it is hoped that Adshead (Rochdale), the best in the country over this distance, will also contest the race, so giving Dave a chance to really go.
Under these conditions a British record could well be broken, and if Dave is prepared to 'cut it out' a little more in the early stages he may well break the Rochdale runner.
Members should note that a circuit training evening has been arranged each Wednesday evening at the Wallasey Technical Grammar School Gymnasium, from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and those wishing to attend should be there on time.
Track work will be continued throughout the winter months on Thursday evenings, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Lingham Park track and this useful additional training session, to one of a large portion of distance work, is expected to keep runners in a sharp condition for racing.
