Four members of Wallasey Athletic Club ran in the 6th annual Chris Vose 7-rnile road race at Warrington last Saturday. The event has been won every year by Ron Hill, and this year was no exception.
Ron Barlow, who was leading, dropped out with a leg injury after two miles. This meant that Doug Hanna was first home for the Wallasey club, finishing 148th with a time of 43 mins. 58 secs.
Carl Gee was 168th in 46 mins. 46 secs, and lost 5 lb. in the course of the afternoon. John Anderson was 176th in a time of 49 mins. 10 secs.
At the end-of-the-season track meeting at Kirby last Sunday, Richard Clegg won the junior shot with a put of 39 ft. 2½ ins. Dave. Lockley, who had already run six miles earlier on in the morning, was placed third in the youths' 2 miles, recording a time of 10 mins. 1.8 secs. Doug Hanna was third in the senior Mile with a time of 4 mins. 47.4 secs.
On Wednesday, September 21st, the annual general meeting was held at the Club H.Q. and the following officers were elected: - Mr. C. R. Hewson (president), Mr. J. Edwards (chairman), Mr. J. H. Prydderth (hon. treasurer) and Mr. C. W. Gee (club coach) were all re-elected; Brian Woolford was chosen as hon. general secretary, and John Morley took his place as club captain. Doug Hanna was elected track secretary and Barrie Smith cross-country secretary. Steve Walker was chosen as Press officer, and on the Ladies' side, Barbara Banks was elected. Women's captain and Margaret Farnsworth - Women's secretary.
