Classic event of the day in Cheshire County A.A.A. Championships at Lingham Park, Moreton this afternoon should be the senior three miles. There should be a real fight between the three main contenders in this event.
Ray Phipps, the holder is still in excellent form and intends to hang on to his title. But Altrincham's Alan Blinston must be favourite for this event after his recent performance over this distance British Games at the White City.
A South African challenge, however, is presented by Peter Whewell who had already gained a big reputation before he joined the Cheshire club at Batley.
The full programme includes track events for boys (13/15) and field and track events for youths, juniors and men. The match starts at 2 p.m. and the arrangements are in the hands of Wallasey Athletic Club.
Miler Brian hall will be the best known runner on the track. Now qualified for Cheshire, he used to live across the Mersey and not only represented Lancashire regularly, but also ran for England in the Empire Games at Perth.
The mile should also see a good time set among the youngsters. David Dutton will take some beating as this Wirral lad has the fastest recorded time in the world for his age-group
In the junior ½ mile all eyes will be on John Davies, of Manchester A.C., who won the All-England Schools Championship last year.
