Today's premier track and field meeting for local athletes will be the Cheshire Schools Championships at Ellesmere Port Grammar school track.
Club members included in Wallasey's team are John Watkins, 100 yards and long jump; Robin Tarrant 440 yards and long jump; Jim Pinder discus and 110 yards hurdles; Bob Parry, shot; Alan Hess, javelin (all intermediate), Juniors: Ian Wilson, 440 yards: Colin McDonnell, 880 yards; Les Watcham, 1 mile. Girls; Valerie Metcalf, javelin and long jump; Anne Sheridan high jump; Margaret Ashcroft and Barbara Banks, 880 yards.
The results of last week's graded meeting at Port Sunlight Oval are; grade 1: 100 yards, Bob Birrell 1st in 10.3, grade II: Ray Ellis 3rd 12.2, grade III; Ian Wilson 2nd, 12.2, Grade I: 440 yards, Bob Birrell 1st 51.6,; John Morley 2nd, 52.4, grade II: Ian Wilson 2nd 57.4, grade I: mile, Les Watcham 4th, 5 mins, 13.3 secs., grade II: Dave Duncan 1st 4 mins. 59 secs.; Eric Griffith 3rd, 5:19; Dave Adair 4th, 5:20; Ron Stewart 6th 5:40.2; Barbara Banks 7th, 6:17.8, Ray Ellis won the high jump with 5 ft. 3 ins. The sprints were helped by a following wind but the lap runners were hindered by it.
Next Monday evening Wallasey A.C. are hosts to four visiting clubs in an inter-club meeting starting at 7:30 p.m. The invited opponents are Sefton A.C., Waterloo A.C., Port Sunlight A.C., and Liverpool Pembroke A.C. and there will be a full programme of events for all age groups, men and women. New members and visitors will be made welcome at the headquarters at Leasowe Road.
