Competing in a field 200 runners at Warrington today in the Chris Vose 7-mile road race, Wallasey Athletic Club will try to repeat their team victory of last year when their great long distance trio of Wright, Woolford and Barlow were carrying all before them in three-to-score distance races.
The club are now Cheshire County road relay champions after their team triumph at Winnington Park last Saturday - see page 12: County Road Relay title.
On the previous Saturday, Brian Woolford completed his long distance programme when he finished third in the Red Rose 20 mile race at Morecambe, behind winner Rooks of Yorkshire and Don Shelley of North Staffs A.C., Woolford has defeated both these runners during the past season and it is possible that he was still feeling the effect of his very fast 15-mile win a week before. However, as he invariably has done in the many top-class fields in which he has competed this summer. Woolford yet again achieved a place position and he must surely
be well in line for representative honours next season.
