Wallasey Athletic Club held their track and field championships on Saturday at their headquarters in Leasowe Road - on what proved to be one of the warmest days of the year.
Proceedings started with the 100 yards, and Robin Tarrant put up a fine time of 10.0 sees, followed by Tony Parry in 10.3 secs. and John Morley in 10.6 secs.
In the shot putt Bob Parry recorded 38 ft. 3 ins. Valerie Metcalf threw 26 ft. to win the women's section, and went on to the discus, in which she threw 62 ft. 3 ins, to complete a double in the throwing events.
The best throw of the afternoon was by Jim Pinder, 109 ft. 5 ins. discus, and later he high-jumped 4 ft. 8 ins, to take 3rd place in the youths section.
Kevin Mather's 880 yards in 2 mins. 5 secs. and long jump of 17 ft. 8 ins. gave him a comfortable win from Brian Chalton in the senior events.
Mike Teahan followed a 5 ft. 2 ins. high jump with a 38 ft. triple jump to clinch second place in the youths' section and Teddy Oldham romped away with the boys' title with 11.1 secs. 100 yards.
The winners of the Tricathlon club competition were; seniors - 1. K. Mather, 2. B Chalton; juniors - 1. T. Parry, 2. M. Teehan, 3. J. Morley; youths - l. R. Tarrant 2. L. Watcham, 3. A. Buter; women - 1. V. Metcalf, 2. L. Breeze, 3. L. Smith.
