The Sutton seven miles open road race was won by Ron Barlow whose team, Wallasey A.C., a won the team race.
Club secretary John Wright supported Barlow well in third place and with Brian Woolford fourth and Kevin Mather eighth the score of 16 points was very low compared with the second team score of 59 points. Even so, Clayton-le-Moors Harriers had second man home in Dennis Hopkinson, the unlucky Lancastrian, who so often has to be content with a minor placing behind top ranking runners. Wallasey have had a fine season on the road and I understand that Ron Barlow is to take seriously to marathon racing from now on.
